A chess mom recommended a restaurant in Lynden, WA serving excellent pie. Not too sweet, because we both agreed we didn’t like saccharin pies. She couldn’t remember the name except it had the word ‘dutch’ in it. Now, Lynden, WA = dutch for those of you who don’t know. There are a few restaurants with the word ‘dutch’ in them: Dutch Treat, Lynden Dutch Bakery, Dutch Mothers. What to do? Track the mom down, or check them all out? Either way, I can’t go wrong!

Old World Deli, Bellingham WA
We love Old World Deli. It smells WONDERFUL when you walk in! The atmosphere and seating casual and the counter help very friendly. Here’s what we ate today (we’ve been here before) read the full restaurant review…

Bagel Quality Control
I’ve already told you the best bagels are found at the Bagelry. And until a REAL Jewish deli blesses us with its presence, I think that’s the way it’s going to be. The only gripe I have is the lack of quality control in the bagel rolling. You see, I grew up in NYC, so I am PICKY about my bagel. It may be the masses are ok with bagels that look like bialys, but read the full restaurant review…

I only need 2 cookbooks
I love cookbooks as much as I love to eat. I have too many, so now I take them out of the library. My girlfriend just shakes her head and says: Another one? But, the 2 cookbooks I have used since I began cooking (and I won’t tell you when) are:
The Joy of Cooking (of course) and The Twenty-Minute Low-Fat Gourmet by Karen Levin.
The Joy of Cooking is my cooking dictionary. If you don’t already know, it was written by a mother-daughter team from St. Louis, Marion Becker and Irma Rombauer, whose first instructions to the cook were “stand facing the stove.” Right up my alley. The Low-fat Gourmet’s recipes are tried and true winners and simple.
How about you?
